SpaceX's Dragon launches the last 2 of the space station's 8 new solar wings
SpaceX's Dragon just launched the last 2 of the space station's 8 new solar wings, and Dragon has carried every one of them.
@SpaceX's cargo Dragon lifted off from Cape Canaveral at 6:33am ET (3:33am PT) with more than 6,300 pounds aboard, @NASA says, and docks Thursday around 11am ET (8am PT). The Falcon 9 booster came back to Landing Zone 40 beside the pad.
The wings are built by Redwire and unroll like a yoga mat instead of unfolding. All eight together make more than 160 kilowatts, roughly what 130 average US homes draw. Astronauts install this last pair on spacewalks this fall, and NASA says the extra power also covers the station's controlled deorbit.
I hadn't realised every one of those wings flew up on Dragon.
