SpaceX Q3 preview: Wall Street expects $12.7B in revenue, AI now the biggest piece
SpaceX posts its third-quarter results after the US market closes today. It is only its second report since the June IPO. Analysts expect about $12.7 billion in revenue, with AI forecast to be the biggest segment. These figures are forecasts, not results.
When
SpaceX says it will post its Q3 2026 financial and operational results after the market close on Tuesday 20 October. Management will hold an audio-only webcast at 4:30pm ET (). The webcast and replay will be at ir.spacex.com, and SpaceX says it will also stream live on X from @SpaceX (SpaceX Investor Relations, 16 Oct). Investors could also submit questions in advance on SpaceX's Q&A platform.
What Wall Street expects
These are expectations, not reported numbers. LSEG consensus estimates, as compiled by CNBC:
- Revenue: about $12.72 billion (expected)
- Earnings per share: 13 cents (expected)
StreetAccount's segment estimates, also via CNBC:
- AI: about $6.47 billion (expected)
- Connectivity (Starlink): about $4.84 billion (expected)
- Space (launch and spacecraft): about $1.41 billion (expected)
If those hold, AI would be SpaceX's biggest segment, narrowly ahead of Starlink and launch combined ($6.47 billion against $6.25 billion). That would be a change: CNBC notes that most of SpaceX's revenue in recent quarters came from connectivity. Not every forecast agrees on the size; Mizuho puts consensus AI revenue at $6.30 billion, up from $2.56 billion in Q2 (CNBC). AI revenue comes mainly from xAI, which SpaceX acquired in February, and the computing capacity it now rents to other companies (CNBC).
What to watch
- Starlink Mobile spectrum. On 8 Oct SpaceX agreed to buy 800 MHz spectrum from Grain Management for about $8 billion. This is agreed, not completed: the deal still needs FCC approval (Reuters). RBC says it would strengthen Starlink Mobile's ability to compete with the big carriers (CNBC).
- Cloud deals. SpaceX has computing deals with Google, Anthropic and Reflection AI, plus one unnamed customer that CFO Bret Johnsen mentioned last month. CNBC says together they could be worth tens of billions of dollars a year (CNBC). That is potential value, not booked revenue. Look for how much of it shows up in this quarter.
- Spending. Evercore ISI estimates SpaceX's capital spending at about $151 billion in 2027 (Reuters). That is an analyst forecast. Any company guidance tonight would matter more.
- Tesla. Tesla reports the next day, 21 Oct. Barclays has said a SpaceX–Tesla deal could be announced before Tesla's annual meeting, with SpaceX the likelier buyer (Reuters). Kalshi traders put the odds of a merger in early 2027 above 50% (CNBC). This is analyst and market speculation: neither company nor Musk has committed to a deal (Reuters).
Expectations vs facts
- Fact: results after the US close on 20 Oct, with a webcast at 4:30pm ET (SpaceX IR).
- Fact: the 800 MHz spectrum deal is signed but waiting on FCC approval (Reuters).
- Expectation: $12.72B revenue, 13c EPS and the segment split (LSEG and StreetAccount, via CNBC).
- Speculation: a Tesla merger (Barclays, Kalshi). Nothing has been announced.
My read
The headline number matters less than the split. If AI really comes in at about half of revenue, SpaceX is being valued as an AI infrastructure company that happens to own the best rockets. I'd watch whether the cloud deals show up as real revenue this quarter, and what management says about the spectrum deal's timing.
