Colossus 2 is now the world's biggest AI data center, Epoch AI estimates
Research group Epoch AI puts SpaceXAI's Colossus 2 in Memphis at about 1.11 million H100-equivalents of compute, the most of any AI data center it tracks and about 93,000 ahead of OpenAI's Stargate Abilene (Epoch data as of 1 Nov 2026). Elon Musk says two more buildings full of Nvidia GB300s come online in November and December.

Macroharder takes up about 810,000 square feet. Minihard is about 312,000, and @CernBasher says it packs in a lot more compute despite the far smaller footprint.

The ranking
Epoch AI keeps a public database of frontier AI data centers, which it says is built from satellite imagery, permits and company statements. It converts each site's chips into H100-equivalents (H100e) so different hardware can be compared. Its top five by compute, as of its 1 Nov 2026 update:
| Data center | Owner | Compute (H100e) |
|---|---|---|
| Colossus 2, Memphis | SpaceXAI | 1,112k |
| OpenAI Stargate Abilene | Oracle | 1,019k |
| Anthropic-Amazon New Carlisle | Amazon | 818k |
| Microsoft Fairwater Atlanta | Microsoft | 769k |
| Google Pryor (North) | 637k |

That's a lead of about 9% (my math: 1,112k − 1,019k = 93k). Colossus 2 doesn't lead on every measure, though. By IT power, Epoch ranks Anthropic-Amazon New Carlisle first at 1,037 MW, ahead of Colossus 2 at 946 MW (as of 1 Nov 2026).
Epoch's Colossus 2 page estimates the site at 946 MW of IT power, mostly Nvidia B200 and B300 chips, at a capital cost of $35.8 billion. It lists Anthropic, Cursor and SpaceXAI as users. Its current figure reflects the site as of its 15 Jun 2026 satellite imagery. For Q1 2027, Epoch projects 1,824k H100e, 1,531 MW and $58.0 billion.
The climb has been quick. Epoch's chart data shows no estimated compute at Colossus 2 on 8 Sep 2025, about 278,000 H100e on 19 Oct 2025, and about 556,000 on 6 Apr 2026. The older Colossus 1 site sits at about 276,000.
What Musk says is coming
On Saturday, 31 Oct, at 1:45pm ET (10:45am PT), Musk replied to Ong's video with an update on the newer buildings:
- Macroharder and Minihard each have 220,000 GB300s with 800-gig network cards, "configured for training."
- Gun Range "will have the same" and is "tracking to be operational by end of November."
- Spam, a building that once housed Hormel products, will have about 200,000 GB300s set up for inference, which needs "much simpler networking and less than half the fiber." It's due in December.
He said he walked the whole Colossus 2 site around midnight and again that morning. In a separate reply at 2:21pm ET (11:21am PT), he put the total at "around 1.2M Blackwells at Colossus 2 by end of year."
Then on Sunday, 1 Nov, at 3:32pm ET (12:32pm PT), he quoted a post about the Epoch ranking:
The other supercompute projects are unable to reach their goals, but SpaceX is already achieving ours

What's confirmed and what isn't
- Epoch AI ranking: Colossus 2 is first in its database by compute at 1,112k H100e, ahead of Stargate Abilene at 1,019k (as of 1 Nov 2026).
- Estimates: every compute, power and cost number here is Epoch's estimate.
- Company statements (Musk): the building chip counts, the end-of-November and December dates, and the roughly 1.2 million Blackwell year-end figure.
- Not disclosed: SpaceXAI hasn't published its own total compute figure for the site.
More on SpaceX compute: the $40 billion GPU deal and Anthropic's $3.1 billion-a-month SpaceX compute bill.
