Grok Bot passes 600,000 daily users on phones, and Musk points out there's no free tier
App tracker Similarweb says Grok Bot's daily active users grew for 16 days in a row, to about 600,000 across iPhone and Android worldwide as of 26 Oct 2026. Its chart starts at about 70,000 on 6 Sep. Elon Musk then pointed out that Grok Bot has no free tier. These are outside estimates. SpaceXAI hasn't published its own user count.

What happened
Similarweb estimates app and website usage from outside the companies it tracks. It posted a chart at 4:35am ET (1:35am PT; ) on 29 Oct 2026, with the caption "As of October 26, Grok Bot has grown in DAUs for 16 consecutive days, its longest growth streak to date." DAU means daily active users. The chart is titled "Daily Active Users on Grok Bot Since Launch", is labelled "iPhone & Android | Worldwide", and runs from 6 Sep to 26 Oct 2026.
At 5:39pm ET (2:39pm PT; ) the same day, Elon Musk quoted a post about the chart and wrote: "Worth noting that Grok @Bot has no free tier."

The official Grok Bot page is consistent with Musk's post. Its pricing section lists Premium at $30 a month, billed monthly, along with Super and Ultra plans, and no free plan (as of 30 Oct 2026). The page also says Grok Bot is available on the Teams plan and for Enterprise.
Reading the chart
Similarweb didn't publish exact figures, only the line. These are my readings against its gridlines, so treat them as close estimates.
| Date (2026) | Daily users, approx. | Line |
|---|---|---|
| 6 Sep (chart start) | ~70,000 | Start |
| 30 Sep | ~305,000 | Steady climb |
| 1–11 Oct | ~300,000–350,000 | Mostly flat, one step up around 6–7 Oct |
| 26 Oct | ~605,000 | 16 straight days of growth |
Readings by Supercharged Daily from Similarweb's chart, as of 26 Oct 2026.
The growth is speeding up
From about 70,000 to about 605,000 is roughly 8.6 times in seven weeks. Split into three stretches, the most recent is the fastest:
- 6 to 30 Sep: about 235,000 more daily users over 24 days, or roughly 9,800 a day.
- 30 Sep to 11 Oct: about 45,000 over 11 days, or roughly 4,000 a day. That's the flat patch on the chart.
- 11 to 26 Oct: about 255,000 over 15 days, or roughly 17,000 a day.
So the last 15 days added more daily users than September did, at about 1.7 times September's daily pace. The chart ends on 26 Oct. The 0.78.1 update, with shopping cards and Shop Pay, started rolling out on 28 Oct at 7:27pm ET (4:27pm PT), so it isn't in these numbers.
Why "no free tier" matters
Most AI apps with big user numbers count lots of people on a free plan. Grok Bot's pricing page lists none, so there's no free plan propping up Similarweb's estimate.
For scale, and only as an illustration: 600,000 people each paying the $30 Premium price would come to about $18 million a month. That isn't a revenue figure. Daily users aren't the same as paying accounts, some people will be on higher plans or Teams and Enterprise seats, and SpaceXAI hasn't reported Grok Bot revenue.
What the number doesn't tell you
- It's an outside estimate. SpaceXAI hasn't confirmed the 600,000 figure or published its own.
- It's phones only. The chart is labelled iPhone & Android. The official page also offers a macOS app for Apple silicon, so desktop-only users wouldn't be counted.
- The exact figures are my readings. The 16-day streak and the "as of October 26" date come straight from Similarweb. The point-by-point numbers come from reading its chart.
The solid part is the trend. On Similarweb's line, Grok Bot was adding about 17,000 daily users a day when the data stopped, and the official page lists no free way in.
