Tesla locked the Roadster livestream for Thursday at 8:55pm ET (5:55pm PT)
@Tesla posted that the event streams live at 7:55pm CST on October 15, after high winds pushed the outdoor demo back from October 1. Tesla says the show can only be held outdoors, which hints at something that needs open space to show off.
The headline number everyone is watching for is 0-60 mph in about 1.1 seconds. Musk has claimed it with the SpaceX package, and confirmed it in 2021, calling it "very intense." That's roughly 2.5g.
@elonmusk quote-posted the time with "Timing is everything." For a car whose whole pitch is measured in fractions of a second, that fits. It also reads like a Back to the Future nod. In the film, Marty gets sent back to 1955 and only makes it home by getting the timing exactly right. In the sequel, Doc's DeLorean comes back able to fly: "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads." Musk once joked the Roadster's thrusters might let a Tesla fly.
The realistic part: when Tesla unveiled the Roadster in 2017, it targeted 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, a top speed above 250 mph and about 620 miles of range from a 200 kWh battery. Expect Thursday to confirm or update those numbers, plus price and production timing, which are still unconfirmed.
The speculative part: the SpaceX package itself, about 10 cold-gas thrusters fed by high-pressure air in a carbon-wrapped COPV tank. Tesla hasn't confirmed it for Thursday, and hovering is fan speculation.
The original Roadster has been in solar orbit since Falcon Heavy's first flight in February 2018.
