Highland Model 3 Performance in Quicksilver
Highland Model 3 — the default Tesla for most people.

Verdict

The default Tesla. Buy it if you want the software stack, strong efficiency, and a car that fits real cities — without paying flagship money.

Buy if

You want the best balance of price, efficiency, and the current Tesla experience in a sedan that parks easily.

Skip if

You need a tall hatch, seven seats, or maximum highway range every week — look at Y or S instead.

Who it’s for

Model 3 is the entry point that still feels complete. Commuters, couples, and anyone coming from a compact petrol car will recognise the brief immediately: smaller outside than it feels inside, quick enough to stay interesting, and cheap to run if you charge at home.

Drive & handling

Steering is light in town and settles at speed. Instant torque makes gaps feel available — which is why Autopilot and FSD Supervised matter as much as the chassis. Highland improved ride and cabin quiet; Performance adds grip and theatre without changing the car’s basic job.

On a mixed week — city streets, suburban arterials, a long highway run — it still feels like the most sorted car in the range. Not the most practical. Not the fastest. The one that asks the least of you.

Cabin & daily use

One screen, ventilated seats on newer cars, and a rear display that earns its keep with kids or passengers. Rear headroom and boot space are fine for two adults and luggage; ski trips and dog crates push you toward Y. Build quality on recent Highland cars is in a different league from early volumes.

Charging & ownership

This is where Model 3 wins arguments: excellent efficiency, dense Supercharging on major corridors in markets where Tesla is established, and home charging that covers most owners. Winter range drops like every EV — plan with the trip planner, not the brochure. Insurance and tyre costs vary by market; the ownership story is still “low fuel drama, occasional panel-gap discourse.”

Software & FSD

Same stack as the rest of the lineup. In countries where FSD Supervised is recognised, this is the cheapest seat to live with it daily. Elsewhere you still get Autopilot / traffic-aware cruise and a cabin that improves over OTA updates — track regional FSD status on the FSD Europe tracker if that matters to your buy.

Bottom line

If you only buy one Tesla and you don’t need the hatch, buy this. Specs will move; the fit question won’t: do you want the software company on four wheels without the SUV premium?
